Tegridy Farms Morale Patch | The Story Behind the Design
# Tegridy Farms Morale Patch: The Story Behind the Design
If you have spent any time in the morale patch corner of the internet, you have probably noticed that cartoon parodies move faster than almost any other category. A streaming series drops a new season, a meme bubbles up, and within days collectors are looking for a 3 inch round version to slap on their pack.
The Tegridy Farms patch is one of those designs.
## Where the joke comes from
For anyone who has not seen the long running adult cartoon television show in question, the storyline goes something like this: a small town family man, frustrated with the modern world, gives up his old life and decides the only honest path forward is to start a farm out in the country. He puts on a wide brim hat, grows a serious mustache, and proceeds to spend the next several seasons being absolutely terrible at running a farm while constantly lecturing everyone around him about the importance of his integrity.
It is parody at its sharpest, the kind of writing that makes you laugh while also making you uncomfortable about which character you actually identify with. And the visual identity, the green ring, the hat, the slightly grumpy face flanked by leaves, has become its own piece of pop culture shorthand.
## Why it works as a patch
A good morale patch has to do two things at once. It has to be readable from across a parking lot, and it has to make the person wearing it feel like they are in on a joke that not everyone gets.
The Tegridy Farms design checks both boxes.
The high contrast green and black color blocking reads cleanly even on a busy tactical pack covered in straps and zippers. The central figure is recognizable in a single glance to anyone who has watched the show, while staying just abstract enough that someone walking by without context just sees a guy in a hat. That layered recognition, where insiders get the full reference and everyone else gets a cool looking patch, is exactly what morale patch design is built for.
It also pairs well with our customer base. The folks buying tactical morale patches tend to skew toward the kind of person who appreciates dark humor, who has watched a lot of late night television, and who does not take themselves too seriously. The cartoon farmer joke lands hard with that crowd.
## How we make every Tegridy Farms patch
Every patch leaves our shop looking the same way it has for years. The artwork is drawn in CorelDraw on the desk in our home studio in High Point, North Carolina. We sublimate the design directly into a polyester twill panel, which means the color does not sit on top of the fabric, it fuses into the weave. That is the difference between a patch that holds up after years of hard use and a cheap iron on transfer that starts cracking after a few washes.
The backing is a hook style fastener, compatible with Velcro Brand loop panels. If your gear has a loop side patch panel, this will stick to it.
We cut and finish each patch in batches in our shop. No overseas factory, no warehouse middleman. Just our small family run print shop, the same one that has been quietly making patches since 2013.
## A small note on the IP question
We get this email a few times a month, so it is worth answering openly. The Tegridy Farms design is a parody, made by fans of the show for fans of the show. We are a small independent shop that has been building original morale patch designs for over a decade, and we treat every fan inspired design with that spirit in mind.
If you are looking to support the original creators of the show, the official merchandise channels are the best place to do that. If you want a 3 inch round morale patch with the cartoon farmer on it for your tactical pack, your operator cap, or your kid's backpack, that is what we are here for.
## The catalog keeps growing
The Tegridy Farms patch is one of more than 1,900 designs in our active catalog. We add new ones almost every week, drawn from cartoons, films, tactical culture, faith, gaming, science fiction, and whatever rabbit hole the family happened to fall into that week.
If a particular design or fandom is missing from the catalog, we read every email and DM. Sometimes the best ideas come from a customer asking for something we had never thought of.
You can browse the full morale patch catalog on the homepage, or jump straight to the Tegridy Farms patch product page if that is the one you came here for.
